Toronto - Corporate
Engineering Co-op Student
“It’s nice to know that my work is being used for projects – that I’m actually contributing.”
An Engineering Co-op Student with Corporate Business and Investment Planning at Head Office in Toronto, Victoria had two pleasant surprises waiting for her at OPG.
First, she was assigned real work in the very first week of her Co-op placement. Second, she discovered that OPG’s workforce is very diverse. In addition, she found that, as a large power company, OPG has a very diverse generation mix, with many large projects. She points out that her initial training and on-the-job experience have enabled her to learn about nuclear generation, an area that has always interested her and to which she had not been exposed before, as well as to gain a good perspective of the company overall.
Victoria, who decided to pursue studies in Engineering while still in Cégep, due to the fact that it’s a highly diverse field with a lot of opportunities, is looking forward to graduating as part of Dalhousie’s Chemical Engineering Class of 2010. In the meantime, she likes the fact that her work at OPG is being used for projects, and that she is making a real contribution.
Characterizing OPG as a great company to work for, with a lot of opportunities in many different fields, Victoria has enjoyed learning about the economics of engineering projects and she feels that, even if she ends up not working in finance, this experience will be very beneficial to her future career.
